Some Kind of Hero

don't think a singer is some kind of hero
with something heroic to say
it's much more than likely he's just telling stories
and happened to tumble your way
he wishes he could take the credit
but it's easier delivered than done
admiring a deed from a distance is one thing
but doing ‘em’s a whole 'nother one
i was a shy boy, i got no permission
to ever step out of that line
i just wanted someone to come up and tell me
"everything's gonna be fine."
but you don't always hear what you want to from others
i know it doesn't happen for me
if i had a dollar for every rejection
a wealthier man i would be
take comfort to know fellow stumblers abound
who will take up your cause if they can
but the strength that you find in yourself is the key
and your piece in the part of the plan
i have discovered that worrying works
i'll tell you why i'm fairly sure
most of the things that i worry about
never even come close to occur
and when i forget why i'm filling these pages
and i'm struggling to pick up my pen
then i'll remember the look on your face
and i'll start in all over again
take comfort to know fellow stumblers abound
who will take up your cause if they can
but the strength that you find in yourself is the key

for true acts of courage are played out by everyone
living on earth every day
so gather your things and you bundle on up
it can get awfully chilly out there
when you find something that you can hold on to
be sure that you handle it with care
don't ever get jealous if you should see someone
who's doing what they love to do
if you're paying attention to what your heart tells you
you're probably doing it, too
