Freedom

I should like to help everyone if possible-
如果可能的話我想幫助所有的人
Jew, Gentile, black men, white…
不論猶太人還是非猶太人黑種人還是白種人

我們都要互相幫助
We all want to help one another.
做人應當如此
Human beings are like that.
我們要把生活建築在別人的幸福上

而不是建築在別人的痛苦上
We want to live by each others' happiness,
我們不是要彼此仇恨互相鄙視
not by each other's misery.
這個世界上有足夠的地方讓所有人生活

大地是富饒的
We dont want to hate and despise one another.
是可以讓每一個人豐衣足食的

生活的道路可以是自由的美麗的
In this world there is room for everyone.
只可惜我們迷失了方向
And the good earth is rich
貪婪毒化了人的靈魂

我們發展了速度
and can provide for everyone.
但是我們隔離了自己
The way of life can be free and beautiful,
機器是應當創造財富的但它反而給我們帶來了貧窮
but we have lost the way.
我們有了知識反而看破一切
Greed has poisoned men's souls.
我們學的聰明乖巧了反而變得冷酷無情了

我們頭腦用的多了感情用得太少了
We have developed speed,
我們更需要的不是機器而是人性
but we have shut ourselves in.
我們更需要的不是聰明乖巧
Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
而是仁慈溫情
Our knowledge has made us cynical;
缺少了這些品格
our cleverness, hard and unkind.
人生就會變得殘暴一切就完了
We think too much and feel too little.
飛機和無線電縮短了我們之間的距離

這些東西的性質本身就是為了發揮人類的優良品質
More than machinery ,we need humanity.
要求全世界的人彼此友愛要求我們大家互相團結
More than cleverness,
現在世界上就有千百萬人聽到我的聲音-
we need kindness and gentleness.
千百萬失望的男人女人小孩

他們都是一個制度下的受害者
Without these qualities ,
life will be violent and all will be lost.

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together.
The very nature of these inventions cries out forthe goodness in man;
cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.
Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world,—
millions of despairing men,women,and little children-
victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.
