Getting There
So this is what it sounds like
To be listening for a moment
To tune out chatter in my head
And tune in to the world instead
And this is what it looks like
With eyes open for a moment
To notice what’s outside of me
To look around and really see
And there’s a strange kind of clarity
A strange kind of harmony
And I stop and breathe the life
That’s in the air
So this is what it feels like to be here
Instead of getting there
Just look at all these people
Colliding for a moment
I’ve trained myself to just ignore
To shuffle chaos out before
But this is how it feels to be alive in New York City
To stop and live inside my skin
To let in the heat of all the bodies
the migration of the car
To see all these different faces,
And that who's to who they are.
And there’s gum on the seats,
And graffiti on the wall,
But It’s real, and it’s here
And I’m part of it all
So this is what it feels like
To be happy in the moment
To realise it’s ok
We all get stuck on our way
And there’s a strange kind of family
A strange kind of harmony
You can feel it
You’re open and unaware
And this is what it feels like to be here
And happy in the moment
And getting there
