Children of the future age ,
未來的孩子們啊
Reading this indignant page,
當你們讀到這篇憤怒的篇章的時候
Know that in a former time
會發現在過去的時代中
Love, sweet love, was thought a crime
愛，甜蜜而青澀的愛，竟被認為是一種罪惡
In the age of gold,
在黃金時代裡
Free from winters cold,
遠離著將至的凜冬
Youth and maiden bright,
活潑的少男少女
To the holy light,
在神聖的白晝裡
Naked in the sunny beams delight
裸露在陽光下嬉戲
Once a youthful pair,
有一次有一對年輕人
Filled with softest care,
蘊藉著最溫柔的關心
Met in garden bright
在燦爛的花園裡碰頭
Where the holy light

Had just removed the curtains of the night

Then, in rising day,

On the grass they play;

Strangers came not near,

Like the holy book

All her tender limbs with terror shook
她柔軟的四肢嚇得打戰
'Ona, pale and weak,
歐娜蒼白又軟弱
To thy father speak!
你要對你父親直說
Oh the trembling fear!
哦，嚇得直發抖！
Oh the dismal care
哦，這淒淒慘慘的煩擾
That shakes the blossoms of my hoary hair!'

Chpater 24 The School Boy
第24章
I loveto rise in a summer morn,
我愛在夏天清晨就起床
When the birds sing on every tree;
當鳥兒在每一棵樹上唱起歌
The distant huntsman winds his horn,
遠處的獵人把他的號角吹響
And the sky-lark sings with me
而云雀在和我相互唱和
O! what sweet company
哦！多麼甜美的同夥
But to go to school in a summer morn,
可是夏天清早就上學堂
O! it drives all joy away;
哦！那就要驅散一切的歡樂
Under a cruel eye outworn
忍受著凶狠的目光
The little ones spend the day,
小傢伙又嘆氣又難過
In sighing and dismay
就這樣把日子消磨
Ah! then at times I drooping sit,
啊！那麼我有時就垂頭喪氣地呆坐
And spend many an anxious hour,
捱過了多少心神不定的時辰
Nor in my book can I take delight,
我既不能從書裡得到快樂
Nor sit in learnings bower,
也不能穩坐學問的涼亭
Worn thro with the dreary shower
它已被陰鬱的風雨磨損
How can the bird that is born for joy,
為歡樂而誕生的鳥兒又怎能
Sit in a cage and sing
呆在一隻籠子裡放聲歌唱？
How can a child when fears annoy
一個孩子當他膽戰心驚
But droop his tender wing
又怎能不耷拉他柔弱的翅膀，
And forget his youthful spring
並且把他的青春完全遺忘！
O! father & mother if buds are nipd,
哦！父親和母親！若花苞被摘掉
And blossoms blown away,
花朵全被吹散，
And if the tender plants are stripd
若柔弱的花木被奪去了
Of their joy in the springing day,

By sorrow and cares dismay
只由於愁哀與焦慮不安，
How shall the summer arise in joy
那麼夏天將怎樣歡快地升起
Or the summer fruits appear
夏天的果實又將怎樣出現。
Or how shall we gather what griefs destroy
我們又將怎樣把悲哀所毀壞的全都收集
Or bless the mellowing year
或怎樣祝賀豐收的一年
When the blasts of winter appear
當冬天的風暴正在摧殘。

第25章 給得撒
Whateer is Born of Mortal Birth,
無論是什麼誕生於肉身
Mustbe consumed with the Earth
就必然被塵世消磨殆盡
To rise from Generation free
為了要擺脫傳宗接代的羈絆
Then what have I to do with thee?
那麼我與你有什麼相干？
The Sexes sprung from Shame & Pride
兩性從羞恥與驕傲中躍起
Blowd in the morn; in evening died
在早晨傳播；在夜晚死去
But Mercy changed Death into Sleep;
但慈悲把死亡變成睡眠，
The Sexes rose to work & weep
兩性激動且哭泣。
Thou Mother of my Mortal part
你這與我血肉相連的母親
With cruelty didst mould my Heart
用殘酷鑄造我的心。
And with false self-deceiving tears
用虛假的自欺的淚珠，
Didst blind my Nostrils Eyes & Ears
把我的鼻孔、眼睛和耳朵束縛
Didst close my Tongue in senseless clay
用沒知覺的泥巴使我噤聲
And me to Mortal Life betray
把我出賣給必死的生命
The Death of Jesus set me free
耶穌的死使我脫離了苦難
Then what have I to do with thee?

Youth of delight come hither
快樂的青年，到這裡來
And see the opening morn,
來看這正在展示的曙光
Image of truth new born
是新生真理的意象
Doubt is fled & clouds of reason
疑慮已溜走，理智的烏雲
Dark disputes & artful teazing,
陰鬱的爭論，狡獪的嘲弄全逃遁。
Folly is an endless maze,
愚蠢是一條無窮盡的曲徑。
Tangled roots perplex her ways,
盤曲的樹根使道路艱險難行，
How many have fallen there!
有多少人在那裡跌倒
They stumble all night over bones of the dead

And feel they know not what but care;
